The pitch is seductive in its simplicity. Companies claim they will install, maintain, and monitor the equipment while homeowners pocket anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars monthly in hosting fees. Some arrangements reportedly cover the incremental electricity costs; others leave homeowners to negotiate with their utilities. The target demographic is unmistakable: crypto-curious suburbanites who remember the early days of Bitcoin mining and wonder if they missed another boat.
The infrastructure desperation
